Making a Life, Making a Living Conference, Nov. 12-15, 2025 

The University of Alberta, with funding from the Government of Canada and the Rainbow Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (the REKH), is happy to be hosting their Making a Life, Making a Living Conference. Taking place at the University of Alberta, from November 12–15, 2025, this four-day gathering will blend ceremony, scholarship, community wisdom, and celebration.

Announcing our third composite story, “Evelyn’s Story: A Livelihoods Journey from Practicality to Passion” 

Evelyn’s story is the third composite story to be published; it is a story about the perseverance of Evelyn, a new immigrant from Vietnam and mother of a 10-year-old boy, after she faces the loss of her husband, Adam. Evelyn’s story highlights her struggles as a person with ADHD and Autism and how that impacts her life at work and home, especially with gaining permanent residency in Canada.

Announcing our second composite story, “Wren’s Story: A Recipe for Livelihoods”  

Announcing our second composite story, “Wren’s Story: A Recipe for Livelihoods”  

Wren and Cyrus’s story is the second to be published. It is the story of two characters: Wren, a Black, non-binary person with diabetes, whose symptoms require them to use a walker; and Cyrus, their partner, who has dietary restrictions from celiac disease and lactose intolerance. This couple faces the struggle of needing to find safe but affordable food for Cyrus and needing to be financially sensible, as Wren has a hard time finding stable work due to their inability to stand for long periods.
