The University of Alberta, with funding from the Government of Canada and the Rainbow Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (the REKH), is happy to be hosting their Making a Life, Making a Living Conference. Taking place at the University of Alberta, from November 12–15, 2025, this four-day gathering will blend ceremony, scholarship, community wisdom, and celebration.
Attendees will begin their conference experience with a ceremonial, land-based visit at kihcihkaw askî – Sacred Land, guided by Lewis Cardinal. After reflecting on Indigenous teachings and connections with Cardinal, the conference will begin. Attendees can look forward to a series of events:
- Opening ceremony with Elder Richard Jenkins
- Keynotes from thought leaders Rafaël Provost, Paulete Poitras, Ivan Coyote, Shelly Ann Skinner & Shalini Sinha
- Thematic streams on research, community-led initiatives, and public sector/business engagement
- Evening cultural programming, including drag and trivia at Evolution Wonderlounge and a closing gala with dinner, dancing, and live music
We encourage you to attend this engaging event where ceremony meets scholarship, experience and research intertwine, and community and connections thrive. For more information and to register for this event, please visit the Making a Life, Making a Living event page.
